Combined CPT and UXO testing

The Geomil Magcone-250 is a high-resolution magnetic sensing system for detecting magnetic anomalies and buried ferrous objects.
Typical applications include Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) screening, detection of metallic obstructions, underground infrastructure, pipeline and cable route surveys, and dredging and civil engineering.
Based on technology from German manufacturer Sensys, the Magcone-250 combines a dual-array of Fluxgate® magnetometer sensors with a 15 cm² (piezo) cone with non-magnetic outer parts. This enables CPT and magnetometer data to be collected in a single test. The Magcone-250 uses the same cable connection as standard CPT testing and is designed for use with Geomil’s new GME-800 data acquisition and logging system.
The dual sensor array enables gradient measurements, providing lower noise and higher spatial resolution than conventional single-sensor mapping. The sensors offer a measurement range of ±250,000 nT, a resolution below 150 pT, a noise rating of 10–30 pT and a 3 Hz cutoff frequency. This makes the Magcone-250 especially effective on industrial sites with electromagnetic interference and historically developed areas containing ferrous objects.
By combining high-resolution magnetic detection with CPT in one investigation, the Magcone-250 delivers more data, greater insight and a more efficient way to identify subsurface risks. Integrated with the GME-800 and compatible across Geomil’s equipment range, it provides a versatile solution that helps engineers and consultants make better-informed decisions before excavation or construction begins.
The system is compatible with all Geomil equipment featuring push-frame-driven or chain-driven systems, providing broad flexibility across different CPT platforms.
